in New England Same Old Story How Long Til Training Camp?

With the 2015 baseball season a failure in New England sports fans ask the usual question this time of year. How long til training camp. The answer is one week from tomorrow the 24th. With one week to go before veterans and rookies report to training camp. That’s the type of summer it’s been in 2015. The Red Sox are dead last in the AL East and one of the worst teams in baseball.

But even though the Patriots are Super Bowl champs all is not perfect in Foxborough. The famous deflate gate case may come to a settlement as early as Friday the 24th. It is rumored that Brady and his lawyer Jeff Kessell may agree on a four game fine. With training camp a week away many people feel that head coach Bill Belicheck is influencing Brady to return. If Brady does hold out and decides to fight this in court the Pats only have two quarterbacks in camp. Second year man Jimmy Garoppolo has been rumored to be Brady’s successor. But Garoppolo is not even close to being ready. The Pats also signed free agent journeyman Matt Flynn off waivers earlier this summer. But neither of the two even comes close as to what Brady brings to the table.

With training camp a week a way the Pats have plenty of work to do to fill in holes created by the departures of All Pro cornerback  Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. Revis was a threat to many quaterbacks and was the first shut down corner the Pats have had in quite some time. Browner also leaves a big hole at the other side. Browner brought physical presence to the Pats backfield but was often flagged for several holding violations.

The Pats however are in very good shape otherwise. Earlier in the week the Pats signed All Pro kicker Stephen Gostowski to a multi year contract. Gostowski has been a great clutch kicke and is noted for his kickoffs going deep into the endzone forcing the opposition to start at the twenty. Overall the Pats had a very successful 2015 draft. The Pats drafted a total of ten players seven on defense and three offensive lineman.

Free agency the Pats also had a successful year. The Pats signed former Buffalo tight end ScottChandler as a depth move in case of injury to Rob Gronkowski. Also the Pats signed linebacker Jabal Sheard from Cleveland to bolster the pass rush..Running back Tavaris Cadet was signed from New Orleans and free agent wide receivers Kevin Dorsey and Brandon Gibson strengthen the receiving corps.

At least Pats fans have something to look forward to for the next several months. The Pats won their fourth Superbowl last February against the Sea hawks.Malcom Butlers interception will be remembered for years to come.
