Now that the 2015 spring training season is almost over for the Red Sox speculation starts to sink in. The first order of business is the starting pitching. The Red Sox home opener is April 13thand it looks like Clay Buchholz is penciled in as the opening day starter. Theirs no number 31 John Lester to look forward to this year. With a mediocre staff of Buchholz, Wade Miley, Rick Porcello, Joe Kelly/if healthy make up this years staff. Old friend Justin Masterson was signed as a free agent fomST. Louis. Masterson had an up and down year as a Cardinal. Hopefully under Red Sox pitching coach Juan Nieves Masterson can regain his deceptive form he had as a rookie in Boston. After that its a mediocre staff if their lucky third place and eighty five wins. Masterson whose regarded as an innings pitcher maybe suited for the bullpen.Buchholz only won 9 games for Boston last year and lost complete confidence in Sox skipper John Farrell. But with no off season splash don’t get your hopes up for the Sox to have any kind of post season success. Lester was their true bulldog and leader when it came to winning big big games. This years staff comes no where near that caliber. Bullpen wise Koji Uehera, .Junichi Tazawa,Craig Breslow,Edward Mujica,Anthony Varvaro, Alexi Ogando, Robbie Ross and Heath Hembree fight it out for six spots. Out of the group Breslow,Ed Mujicaand Junichi Tazawa were the only reliable relievers the Sox could count on this year. Masterson who can eat up a lot of innings best place maybe the bullpen.Spot starter Brandon Workman was used in both relief and as a fifth starter. Hitting wise the Sox will be their. They were last in the American league with only 650 runs scored. Almost 200 runs off from their world series year of 2013. If anything this years club will be slightly better than last. But without a Lester, Johnny Cueto, Mike Linke or a Cole Hamels to claim the number one spot it will be another long disappointing season in Beantown.
