As the Celics await the start of the 2014 training camp one has to speculate if guard Rajon Rondo will be wearing Celtics green much longer. General Manager Danny Ainge has stated in recent days trading Rajon Rondo is not a priority. So what are Ainges options? the first and the most sensible one is to trade Rondo and get some pieces to go along with Jarred Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk. It will take a lot more than Marcus Thornton,Evan Turner and Tyler Zeller.Or the latter option is to let him walk after the season. The Celtics are at least two years away from contending in the NBA east. The other issue is how well will Rajon Rondo fit into the Stevens regime. With the drafting of Marcus Smart and James Young it looks like the Celtics are going in an another direction. But to throw Smart and Young right into the mix will take time. The 2014/15 season will be a long rebuilding season. Patience and practice will determine the success of this years club. Ainge has fifteen draft picks in the next three years. More draft picks will take longer for the nucleus to develop. Rondo will bring value in return. A talented veteran or two would make the Celtics that much more competitive. It seems quite clear that Rondos stay in Boston will soon be coming to an end.
